The Pontchartrain Conservancy
At Epiphany, we are dedicated to helping create a more sustainable city, state and world! There is a lot to do but let’s start in small ways like using reusable straws and water bottles, recycling glass, shopping hand made and of course throwing non toxic, biodegradable beads at local celebrations. We tend to think of our waste just disappearing after we use it, but sadly most of it survives for thousands of years. It affects our health and the quality of the nature around us. With this in mind, we have partnered with The Pontchartrain Conservancy to create a “green” green Demeter necklace. The retail cost is $16 and $10 of that cost will go directly to the cause. The conservancy is such an important part of our community health! Here’s a quick overview of what they do:
The Conservancy’s mission is to drive environmental sustainability and stewardship through scientific research, education, and advocacy.
Lake Pontchartrain is just one part of a vast ecological system called the Pontchartrain Basin. The Basin provides essential habitat for countless species of fish, birds, mammals, reptiles, and plants.
The Basin is a 10,000 square mile watershed encompassing 16 Louisiana parishes and is the most densely populated region in Louisiana.
The basin contains one of the largest estuarine systems in the Gulf of Mexico containing over 22 essential habitats.
Please support them by visiting the new Lighthouse museum, shopping the gift shop, buying a Demeter necklace or simply donating cash.
Here’s how we’d play it carnival style: Purchase the green Demeter in bulk as your specialty throws! Especially for dat St Pattys Day parade!
